Empower a woman to alleviate poverty and grant their children education

The Story

Nakshi Stitch is a non-profit Social Enterprise seeking to empower the lives of the women of Bangladesh through the intricacy of art. Nakshi is the name given to the traditional folk-art embroidery that instills a storytelling quintessence. Women sit together sewing beautiful thread work onto cloth, articulating their stories into the atmosphere around them and the cloth beneath them.

The canvas not only is a means of creativity, but also self-expression and the manifestation of the artisan’s aspirations. Each stitched pattern, each colour, and each path tells an extraordinary story unique and personal to the artisan alone. They sew their struggles and joys. The aim of Nakshi Stitch is to incorporate this skill as a means to help artisans alleviate poverty.

The organization provides these women with training and resources to harness their wonderful talents to rely on from home, creating unique high-end embroidery. Proceedings from the sales are reinvested back into the business to continue to support the artisans and a percentage also goes towards sponsoring education for their children as a means to combat child labour- one of the most common forms of modern slavery that still exist today in Bangladesh.
